Independent Living Programs

Discover how the Independent Living Programs (Adult Skills and Supervised Independent Living) and Aftercare Regional Independent Living Program are making a real difference for young adults transitioning to independence in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties.

Independent Living

KHDS’s Supervised Independent Living program in Kenosha offers youth scattered site housing or placement with vetted adults, covering rental costs and providing in-home maintenance education and condition reviews. Participants develop an Individualized Service Plan with their case worker, focusing on education, health, connections, safety, and wellbeing, and attend weekly group classes on life skills. They also obtain essential documents and a smartphone for communication. The Adult Living Skills program prepares youth from 14 ½ years old, in out of home placement with strength assessments and life skills for successful transition out of the program. These initiatives aim to help the youth safely transition into independence and adult responsibilities.
